The Kraft behind KibbleKraft

More than two decades raising the bar on how products get built.

Robert H. Mayer has spent more than 25 years making physical products that hold up to scrutiny. Not prototypes, not concepts. Things that ship by the container load, sit on retail shelves, and live in real homes and hotel rooms for years.

He founded and led DecoLav, an award-winning bath brand he scaled past $28 million in annual revenue through national retail and luxury hospitality. The work that built that business came down to a single conviction: the gap between “luxury” and “affordable” was mostly markup, not material. Most premium bath product priced the average buyer out for reasons that had nothing to do with how well the thing was made. He set out to close that gap.

That meant rethinking the supply chain instead of just sourcing from it. As Managing Director of R&S Mayer Trading in Guangzhou, Robert ran a 105-person manufacturing operation and set quality control on the floor, in person, every day. He pulled the design, engineering, and production decisions under one roof, cut out the layers that added cost without adding value, and held the factory to a standard most importers never bothered to enforce. The result was product that looked and performed like the high-end names, at a price that made sense to a Lowe’s or Target shopper.

National retailers noticed. So did the hotels. Through DL Hospitality, Robert sourced and produced FF&E for luxury properties that demanded a finish guests would never question and a budget the property could actually approve. Reconciling those two pressures — hotel-grade quality against real-world cost — became the discipline that defined his career. He did it for Lowe’s, Target, Home Depot, and hospitality groups that don’t accept excuses, container after container.

KibbleKraft is the same playbook pointed at a category that has ignored it. Pet feeders have been cheap plastic for as long as anyone can remember, sold on price because no one expected better. Robert expects better. KibbleKraft is built to furniture-grade standards and priced to belong in a beautiful home, because the things that live with you should be made like they were meant to stay.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

What makes KibbleKraft different from other automatic pet feeders?

KibbleKraft is being designed to deliver something most pet products do not — long-term value through better materials, better construction, and better everyday living. Unlike many competitors that rely on particle board, MDF, lightweight plastics, or disposable appliance-style construction, KibbleKraft is being built with premium plywood construction, durable feeder hardware, and furniture-grade finishes designed for long-term use. The difference starts with the carcass itself: KibbleKraft is engineered as real furniture, built to handle daily life with pets while maintaining the look and feel of a premium piece in your home. The automatic feeder system is also designed for durability and dependable performance, not as a short-life plastic mechanism intended to be replaced. Our design philosophy comes from more than 25 years of manufacturing furniture and products for hotels, homeowners, and restaurants where durability, quality, and appearance matter. Simply put, KibbleKraft is not being designed as another disposable pet appliance — it is being built to last, for your pet and for your home.

What makes KibbleKraft worth the investment?

KibbleKraft costs more because it is not built like a plastic appliance, and it is not designed to be disposable. Unlike traditional plastic feeders built to solve a single function, KibbleKraft combines furniture-grade construction, dependable automatic feeding, concealed food storage, and premium finishes into a product designed to become part of your home. Built with premium plywood construction, durable hardware, and elevated finishes, it is designed to last for years, not months. Our philosophy comes from more than 25 years designing and manufacturing furniture and products for hotels, homeowners, and restaurants, where durability, quality, and appearance matter. It is being built as a long-term investment in both your home and your pet's daily routine.

What's included in the KibbleKraft System?

The KibbleKraft System is two matching pieces in your chosen finish: the Dispenser, an automatic kibble dispenser housed in a solid-wood cabinet with a concealed hopper and a sealed, food-safe stainless bowl; and the Wellness Fountain, a circulating ceramic water fountain with a whisper-quiet pump and a replaceable carbon filter. You can back the Dispenser on its own, the Fountain on its own, or the two together as a bundle.

How does the Dispenser actually feed?

Instead of relying on gravity, the Dispenser uses a custom feeding auger we engineered — a driven screw mechanism that meters kibble in consistent, measured portions from a concealed hopper into a sealed, food-safe stainless bowl. This delivers more reliable, repeatable servings and helps avoid the over-pouring and jamming common to simple gravity feeders.

What finishes can I choose from?

Grey Oak is our standard finish. We are also offering four premium finishes as bundles — Dark Walnut, White Oak, Modern Black, and Matte White — each in limited quantities. The individual Dispenser and Fountain ship in Grey Oak separately.

How much food and water do they hold?

The Dispenser's concealed hopper holds roughly 12 lbs of kibble, so most households refill about once a week. The Wellness Fountain holds about 90 oz — enough for a multi-pet home to go three to four days between refills.

What is KibbleKraft made of?

KibbleKraft is built with furniture-grade premium plywood construction, durable feeder hardware, and elevated finishes — the same materials and standards we have used for 25 years building furniture for hotels, homeowners, and restaurants. The Dispenser uses a sealed, food-safe stainless bowl and the Fountain uses a ceramic basin, with no exposed plastic in the feeding and drinking zones.

Who is behind KibbleKraft, and why crowdfunding?

KibbleKraft is made by a team with more than 25 years of furniture and product manufacturing for hotels, homeowners, and restaurants — not a startup learning to build. We have spent 6 months on prototypes and tooling. Crowdfunding lets us fund the first full production run and build it alongside the people who will use it every day, and we will be in the comments answering questions personally.

What happens if a finish or early tier sells out?

Each finish and pricing tier is offered in limited quantities. Early Bird pricing is first-come, first-served; once those units are claimed, the next pricing tier applies. The premium finishes (Dark Walnut, White Oak, Modern Black, and Matte White) are each capped, so if a finish sells out it may become unavailable for this campaign.

Is KibbleKraft suitable for small, medium and large dogs?

Yes. KibbleKraft is designed to support small, medium, and large dogs, with a focus on functionality for larger breeds that are often underserved by compact plastic feeders. The Dispenser is intentionally designed with larger kibble capacity, a bigger bowl, and a stronger furniture-grade footprint to better accommodate medium and large dogs, while still working beautifully for smaller pets.

What happens if my Wi-Fi or power goes out?

KibbleKraft is being designed to keep feeding even if your Wi-Fi connection goes down. Core feeding schedules are intended to run locally, so your pet's routine is not dependent on cloud connectivity. In the event of a power outage, battery backup is planned to keep feeding schedules operating normally. If power remains out longer than expected and backup batteries are depleted, KibbleKraft is designed with a top access opening, allowing you to manually feed your pet without interruption. The goal is simple: your pet should still get fed, whether the internet is working or not.

How easy is KibbleKraft to clean?

Easy cleaning and everyday maintenance have been core priorities throughout the engineering of KibbleKraft. Behind the removable dark grey access panel, designed with an integrated handle, you will have simple access to the automatic dispensing hardware for maintenance and service when needed. Food-contact components are being designed for easy removal and cleaning, helping simplify routine maintenance while supporting long-term hygiene.

When will my KibbleKraft order ship?

We are building realistic production timelines into this campaign from day one. Our products begin shipping from our factories in early Q4, with units shipping from our warehouse to backers in early November — just in time for the holiday season. Manufacturing, freight, customs, and global logistics can shift unexpectedly, so we are planning with built-in buffer time rather than making promises we cannot keep. Throughout production, we will keep backers updated every step of the way.

Where will KibbleKraft be manufactured?

We are actively working with manufacturing partners in South Korea and other premium production environments to align product quality, reliability, and long-term durability with the standards we expect. Our partners are currently developing prototypes as we refine engineering, materials, and production processes. Having spent more than 25 years in manufacturing, we avoid the typical importer model of having one factory produce everything. Instead, we work with specialized partners, where each critical component is produced by the supplier best equipped to build it — sourcing key technologies and components from best-in-class partners in the Asian Rim to achieve the quality, reliability, and longevity we expect.

Is KibbleKraft environmentally friendly?

Our goal is to reduce the cycle of disposable pet products by creating something built to stay in the home for years, not months. Unlike many plastic pet products designed to be replaced, KibbleKraft is being built for long-term use through durable construction, repair-minded design, and premium materials. We are exploring sustainable materials, responsible sourcing, and environmentally conscious packaging whenever practical. We believe the most sustainable product is often the one you do not have to replace.

What experience do you have designing and manufacturing furniture?

KibbleKraft is not our first product. For more than 25 years, our team has designed, manufactured, and supplied furniture, fixtures, and equipment for recognized hotels, resorts, and hospitality brands across North America — including guest-room furniture, case goods, vanities, sinks, and bathroom fixtures. These environments demand durability, quality control, repeatability, and premium finishes. We are approaching pet feeding the same way: build something beautiful, dependable, and designed to last.

When can I expect to receive my KibbleKraft order?

KibbleKraft is currently targeting early-to-mid November for final launch quantities, with estimated deliveries expected approximately 4 to 6 months following the close of the campaign. As a premium, furniture-grade product with custom finishes, electronics, and precision manufacturing, we are taking a quality-first approach to production. Backers will receive regular progress updates throughout production, including manufacturing milestones, material selections, and shipping timelines.
